Dan Blackwell, D.D.S., FACD (retired)
Dr. Dan Blackwell grew up on a farm in Northern Missouri near Polo. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia. After college, he worked for IBM for three years before starting dental school. Dr. Blackwell graduated from the University of Missouri Kansas City dental school in 1968, and afterwards, he served as a dental officer in the United States Navy during the Vietnam conflict. After Vietnam, Dr. Blackwell returned to UMKC and completed a two-year orthodontic residency. He graduated from UMKC in 1972.
Dr. Blackwell is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, and is a Fellow of the American College of Dentists.
Over the years, Dr. Blackwell has been involved in community service. He has served on many community and professional committees and boards. He is especially concerned about educational matters. He has served on the Lee’s Summit Board of Education, as well as spending eight years on the Missouri State Board of Education. Dr. Blackwell is also involved with dental education and has been an assistant clinical Professor at the UMKC orthodontic department since 1990. He is now a co-program Director at UMKC Department of Orthodontics and was chosen Alumni of the Year at UMKC Dental School in 2006.
Dr. Blackwell has lived and practiced in Lee’s Summit since 1972. His wife and youngest daughter, Molly, are both attorneys who practice with Chinnery, Evans and Nail law firm in Lee’s Summit. His oldest daughter, Beth, practices with him in our orthodontic office.
Beth Blackwell Nill, D.D.S., M.S.
Dr. Beth Blackwell Nill grew up in Lee’s Summit, graduating from Lee’s Summit High School in 1987. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology, as well as her dental degree, from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. After dental school, she headed north to complete her orthodontic training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. While at the Mayo Clinic, she received her master’s degree in biomedical science and had the opportunity to be part of their cleft palate team, dealing with many deformities of the face and jaws.
Dr. Nill joined her father’s practice in 1996. She is also an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, and many community foundations and other dental study clubs. Dr. Nill has also worked closely with Children’s Mercy Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital to provide orthodontic services to aid cleft palate children and other dental deformities.
Dr. Nill is married to Dr. David Nill, a family practice physician. They have two young boys, Collin and Dylan, as well as a very energetic Spaniel named Percy. If you are out and about, you will likely see Dr. Nill coaching basketball or cheering her boys on in various sports and activities.
Dr. Nill has dedicated her life to children and can think of no job she would rather have than to be here making your kids smile!
Scott Francois, D.D.S.
Dr. Scott Francois was born in Denison, Iowa, the youngest of nine children. While in junior high school, he moved to Springfield, Missouri with his family. That is where he completed high school, graduating from Kickapoo High School in 1991. He attended college at Southwest Missouri State, where he studied biology and chemistry, before earning early acceptance into the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. Dr. Francois completed dental school in 1999, earning a Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree. He then pursued post-doctoral training in orthodontics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry, where he earned a Certificate in Orthodontics. During his training, he met Dr. Blackwell and Dr. Nill, who were instructors in the program.
Dr. Francois joined the practice in 2001. He is an active member in the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, and the Missouri & Greater KC dental societies, along with various dental study clubs.
Dr. Francois resides in Lee’s Summit with his wife, Amy, and three sons: Caden, Blake and Lucas. Outside of practicing orthodontics, Dr. Francois enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf and exercising.
